SVA (the School of Visual Arts, in NYC, where Matt and I teach) is holding an exhibition of work by selected current and former faculty. This is notable especially because there have been so very many spectacular teachers and cartoonists at SVA over the years. So many, in fact, that curators Tom Woodruff and Marshall Arisman instituted a rule to keep the numbers under control: current faculty younger than 50, such as myself, are excluded.
Bummer. Nonetheless, you can’t go wrong with a show that includes Harvey Kurtzman, David Mazzucchelli, Sue Coe, Burne Hogarth, Klaus Janson, Peter Kuper, Gary Panter, and Art Spiegelman, among many others.
The format of the show reputedly includes long library tables wehre you can actually READ the comics, and I can’t tell you how happy THAT makes me. It will be held in SVA’s spectacular far west side gallery. Come just for the view from the terrace.
