Matt Madden is an internationally renowned cartoonist dubbed by The New York Times as “the stuntman-philosopher of American comics.” His graphic novel, Ex Libris, has been heralded as a “dazzling master class in comics.” He is known around the world for his canonical book is 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style, which takes a single page comic and spins out 99 inventive and surprising variations. This project has inspired artists and readers around the world and has been translated and published in ten languages and counting. Thanks to the impact of that book and Madden’s public engagement with French culture as an artist, teacher, and translator, in 2013 he was named Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government.
Madden is also a comics coach, helping cartoonists focus and refine their art and storytelling into their best work possible.
